The company was based at Thornliemuir Farm, Paisley, and operated 7 vehicles. The company moved in1974 to Glenfield Road, Paisley, moving more into general haulage, transporting whisky, timber, fertiliser and containers the fleet grew to 30 vehicles. A further move was made in 1997 to a former thread mill in Neilston. The fleet had been downsized to 18 vehicles in order to specialise in plant transport, waste disposal and recycling.
Today J & M Murdoch & Son Limited is run from Crofthead Mill, Neilston, headed by John Murdoch Junior, Andrew Murdoch and their sister Helen. The fleet is mainly Volvo and currently stands at over 50 vehicles it now concentrates on niche markets for which the company has the specialist skills, vehicles and people. As old buildings come down materials need removing and recycling, and as new ones go up, sites need machines and tippers and skips to prepare the way.
The company offers a range of waste-disposal services, ranging from skip trucks for handling household waste, tippers for muckaway and demolition jobs, a waste transfer station for recycling, and its own landfill site. We operate a number of tankers for the removal and disposal of liquid waste. There’s also a fleet of heavy-haulage tractors and trailers which carry out Murdoch’s other specialty, the movement of plant and machinery for other companies.
We can do up to 250 individual movements in a single day. We have to be totally flexible and prepared to operate 24/7 without restrictions. While most of the work is local to Scotland, Murdoch covers the entire UK and has the ability to do European work if required.
Murdoch was acclaimed as "Best Scottish Fleet of the Year 2007"
